A little bit about me....
Hey, I’m Donna, the face behind The Crochet Craft Co. My crochet home is based down on the South Coast of the UK, where I live with my very understanding husband (who is drowning in yarn), two slightly crochet-embarrassed teenagers (I do whip the hook out wherever we go – the photos below prove just how embarrassing I can be!) and my naughty, stubborn but completely lovable Cairn terrier, Alfie. Apart from crochet, I love walking, being by the sea and being with my family.
A little bit about my crochet world...
I had previously learnt to knit (not very well) and was intrigued when I first realised that you could make toys/animals by crocheting. I had always thought that crochet was all about lacey doilys on bedside tables and granny square blankets. I taught myself to crochet and found it more relaxing and easier than knitting, especially as I could curl up with it on a sofa and found that I enjoyed it so much that it really helped me switch off from work and helped me relax from a busy or stressful day.
In June 2015 I started making cards with crochet applique designs and sending them to friends and family (I am notoriously bad at sending cards!). Someone suggested I could sell them and ‘The Crochet CARD Co’ was born!
A little bit about my crochet business...
My business has since developed and transformed and, along with a more appropriate name, nowadays my focus is on teaching crochet and designing simple and fresh patterns for people to enjoy. My designs include amigirumi cute characters and animals such as Dave the Dog and Colin the Cow, as well as seasonal items such as wreaths , wall hangings and advent calendars. I’m also delighted to now offer a choice of subscription boxes delivered straight to your door (one with a little nod to my roots of crochet cards which I absolutely love!). I am also delving into the world of polymer clay and starting to make stitch markers which is totally not at all distracting from the crochet to do list!
I am so proud that my designs have been showcased a number of times on Hochanda TV and I have also had patterns published in Simply Crochet magazine. In 2020 I was also lucky to be chosen by Theo Paphitis as one of his Small Business winners.
A little bit about my crochet why...
Being passionate about teaching crochet I love helping others on their crochet journey and watching them create beautiful projects. I teach crochet regularly across Southampton as well as at national yarn events. In addition, I provide free tutorials on online and private online lessons to help people find their ‘crojo’. Community is very important to me and I try to help with charity projects and random acts of kindness as much as I am able too.
I believe that crocheting (and other similar crafts) deliver some fantastic benefits in relieving stress and helping us be ‘mindful’ in this busy, crazy, constant world we live in. I know that it certainly helps me switch off from challenging days.
I hope you enjoy browsing my page and if I can help you in any way with your crochet journey, just let me know!
